Education

Conferences and Didactics

Lincoln general surgery residents follow the SCORE curriculum which is a 2 year curriculum published by the American Board of Surgery. All residents have access to two question banks as the program purchases TrueLearn subscriptions in addition to the SCORE questions. Residents have protected time during Thursday morning education block from 8 am to 12 pm. This includes SCORE, Morbidity and Mortality Conference, faculty lectures and journal club.

Simulation

Surgery residents have access to simulation resources in three different locations. Adjacent to the resident workroom is a simulation area dedicated to surgery residents that includes a laparoscopic trainer, an endoscopic trainer and basic suture materials. These resources ensure adequate preparation for FES and FLS which our residents can train for on site.

There is a simulation center available to all the Lincoln programs which we use for more formal simulation including ATLS training and interdisciplinary simulation.

Lincoln residents go to Jacobi’s Institute for Medical Simulation and Advanced Learning (IMSAL) on a quarterly basis for advanced high-fidelity simulation using the  Cut Suit model. In a controlled environment, our resident can practice trauma thoracotomy, exploratory laparotomy and hemorrhage control as well as chest tubes and central venous catheters.
